Explosion Vent / Vents
U.S. Air Filtration Dust Collectors, Baghouses, and Cartridge Collectors can all be supplied with a full line of Brixton Explosion Latches, or explosion vents. Explosion latches are designed with "refrigerator" type latch mechanism that will allow the door to reseal after the explosions. Explosion latches are designed for high and low-pressure explosions that are fully adjustable. Explosion vents reseal themselves and do not need to be replaced like other less desirable type vents. Dust fires can be devastating to an industrial facility. Damage to plant facilities, lost production time, increased insurance premiums, and injury to plant personnel are some of the costs associated with an incident of this type. Dust fires are relatively common occurrences in a variety of industries. Plants equipped with pneumatic handling and air filtration systems have an inherent risk associated with the operation of these systems. Bag Type Collectors used for the collection of fine dusts present a special problem because of the use of combustible fabric even when the dust is noncombustible. Even bags of low combustibility will not withstand temperatures normally encountered under fire conditions. Because of the combustibility of the bags, ductwork, or of the material being transferred through them, the installation of an automatic carbon dioxide extinguishing system or explosion vents are justified. The purpose of the explosion latch / explosion vent is to protect the equipment from being destroyed during a deflagration. Applications range from wood dust to all types of chemicals that may be explosive under certain conditions. In addition to the explosion latches all duct systems may be designed with "back draft" or "fire," type inline dampers that will protect the employees inside the building in the event of a deflagration or fire. Additionally dampers can be installed on the exhaust of the fan so that airflow is eliminated to choke the oxygen from fueling the fire. All Dust Collectors, Baghouses and Cartridge Collectors can be pre-fabricated with couplings for fire sprinklers that may be required by code. Please check you local fire department and NFPA codes for these requirements.
