U.S. Air Filtration provides Expanded PTFE Membrane finishes for for all dust collector filter bag applications. Using a PTFE Membrane coated filter bag allows baghouse engineers to reduce capital and operational costs, as well as the ability to design the baghouse for higher airflows. Use of a PTFE membrane coated filter bag also provides for a degree of protection from the "unknown" and "unpredictable" changes that sometimes occur during baghouse operations. The PTFE membrane is in most instances, the best economic choice for filter media. The expanded PTFE Membrane permits more air to pass through the filter media while trapping particulate on the surface. Use of the PTFE membrane filter media for baghouse filtration represents the highest technological development available today in the filter media finish marketplace. Some engineers prefer to think of PTFE membrane as a pre-installed primary dust cake that immediately, when installed into a baghouse, provides the high efficiency levels that normally occur after a bag has been in use for several months of application. See diagram above. As the PTFE membrane acts as the primary dust cake on a filter bag, it supplies a permeability averaging 8-12 CFM. This is much lower than a brand new bag made from convential woven, knitted, or felted media. However, the conventional media has no pre-installed primary dust cake and will see it's permeability reduced sharpl when placed into operation, when the particulate will become lodged in the depth of the pore structure of the media. It is at this point only that a comparison can be made between the output of the membrane surface and the dust cake of conventional media. As the particulate is also collected on a surface that is both hydrophobic and smooth, the cake release of PTFE membrane products is far superior to the conventional medias. Some of the main reasons why engineers choose to use an Extended PTFE Membrane for filtration are:
